Plant of the Moment – Veronicastrum

Veronicastrum, or Culver’s Root is looking great right now and has so many virtues.

  • The tall stately flowers are self supporting so don’t need plant supports.
  • They are an absolute magnet for butterflies, bees and other insects.
  • The flowers last for a long time, and the seedbeds continue to look good through winter.
  • They are hardy and will grow in a wide range of conditions. The flower tips will droop if too hot and dry, but quickly perk up in the evening.
  • They are very long lived so will continue looking good for years to come.
  • Pests such as slugs, snails and deer seem to ignore them.

Well worth growing!
